I’ve spent twenty years becoming quite good at not fitting into job-platform dropdown menus.
This wasn’t intentional.
I’ve worked in communications. Digital. Strategy. Product. Crisis. Campaigns. Consultancy. Agencies.
Very useful when something complicated needs fixing.
Less useful when a website asks:
WHAT ARE YOU?
Well.
Product Owner?
Yes.
Strategist?
Also yes.
Communications?
Yep.
Digital?
That too.
Then you get to choose one.
So I’ve recently gone from looking at my CV and thinking, that’s actually pretty good, to staring at a dropdown menu wondering whether I have any identifiable skills whatsoever.
Twenty years of experience defeated by a mandatory field.
Excellent.
I’m not really trying to reinvent myself.
I’d quite like to use all of it.
Apparently that requires a bigger dropdown menu.
