I’ve now had two job interviews with AI.
Different jobs. Different subjects.
Same strangely supportive interviewer.
I’d answer a question.
“That’s a really good answer, Thomas.”
Another one.
“You’ve really captured the essence there.”
Then:
“Well structured, Thomas.”
Thank you, robot.
After twenty years of working with actual people, it turns out what I really needed was an algorithm telling me I communicate clearly.
And honestly, the interviews were surprisingly good.
It listened to what I said. Repeated parts back. Asked relevant follow-up questions. Never once looked bored when my answer went on slightly too long.
By the end of both, I felt pretty good about myself.
Apparently I interview extremely well with machines.
There is just one small problem.
It has now been eight days.
No response.
So somewhere between the AI repeatedly telling me what an excellent candidate I am and an actual human deciding whether to hire me, things have gone rather quiet.
Maybe the AI and I just had something special.
I hope it’s doing okay.
